What’s the most effective thing an individual citizen can do? I think a few organizations are working on this (eg the Center for Biological Diversity and the Western Watersheds Project), so donating to them may be a good way to take action?

Hey Danielle. It's the question at the top of all our minds right? How can we help stop this? Yes, donating to places like the Center for Biological Diversity, SELC, Earthjustice, etc., is a great move. These organizations are the ones in the courtroom fighting this out. In addition, public comments, calling reps, and amplifying news and journalism about what is happening are things we can do. The idea is to create pressure, to create a groundswell that can't go unnoticed.

Contacting journalists is a great idea— I can’t believe how little press attention this is getting. Thanks for your thoughts.

This resonates with me so much. My parents were both school teachers and in the summer Yosemite and the Sierras were our playground. Camping, hiking, backpacking and then road trips across the U.S. to so many parks I don’t remember them all. The beauty, the geography, the history gets in your psyche; these places do belong to us and need to be cared for and saved.

Thanks Katiejane, and please thank your parents for me. Teachers are the heart of public service and so underappreciated. Sounds like you were a very lucky kid.

So important, so well said. I wish every American could be required to read this.

Really appreciate your comment Tina. It's so easy to forget this key fact, and that's what they're counting on. Every time a parcel of federal land is sold off, our kids and their kids lose a piece of their inheritance. Once it's gone, it's gone.

This is the article I wanted to write, but I would've never done such a beautiful job as you did. It's perfection.

Sadly, another consequence of the average 'Merikkkan being dumber than a post without it's usefulness...... Someone should stand up for Ayn Rand before our extinction. ;)
