I like to think of this newsletter as a community where we can all freely share our opinions on public lands. In that spirit, here are my thoughts on reservation-only campgrounds. I’d love to hear yours.

I fully appreciate the need for campground reservations. How else could a family plan a camping trip to a national park or forest without knowing if they’ll actually get a site? But to make a campground 100% reservation only doesn’t seem like the best solution.
I remember being fresh out of high school and jumping into the car with Jim & friends to go camping on a whim. Even doing cross-country road trips on a whim with no concrete plans but just a direction in mind. We’d pull into campgrounds late at night and usually have luck in finding a spot.
