WAR! was the headline across major papers like the Detroit Press, the LA Times, the Boston Globe and others on Friday September 1, 1939 - the day after Germany bombed Warsaw. A variation was carried by every major paper across America

Almost 87 years later to the day a different headline with a similar effect to the public lands world rippled across the country. YOSEMITE SELL OFF.

It started with Anna Kramer’s reporting at NOTUS (now apparently the Washington Sun) reporting that The Trump Administration had been working for the better part of a year on a land exchange deal to trade away a small section of Yosemite National Park to a private developer for road access to Kingsbarn Realty Capital’s 83-acre private property.

Every bully eventually discovers the fence post that bites back. In Europe in 1939, the line ran through Poland. In the increasingly strange war over America’s public lands, it may run through Yosemite.
