Landmark Public Lands Rule to Be Rescinded
The one rule that gave the BLM a reason to treat conservation like it actually mattered.
We were on a call with Alison Flint when the news came in. She’s the senior legal director at The Wilderness Society. We were talking through an upcoming piece on the folks on the front lines fighting to save our public lands.
Then her phone lit up.
There it was. No announcement. No statement. Just a filing buried in a government database. The Public Lands Rule is being rescinded.
No one on the call was surprised. That’s how these things happen now. Quietly. Without warning. Without a single person in power needing to explain why.
But it landed hard. This was the one rule that gave the Bureau of Land Management a reason to treat conservation like it actually mattered.
Now they’re moving to erase it.
