Inside the Public Lands Crisis with Wes Siler & More Than Just Parks

Catch our latest LIVE with Wes Siler

Big thanks to everyone who joined us live for today’s Substack Live with

. These conversations matter, and it was great to have so many of you show up and engage. We’re planning to do more of them soon, so stay tuned.

We focused on what’s shaping up to be a coordinated, under-the-radar war on public lands. At the center of it all is the reconciliation bill, which reads less like a budget and more like a demolition manual. It authorizes land sales, guts environmental review, fast-tracks fossil fuel projects, and blocks courts from stepping in. It even mandates a 25 percent increase in logging over last year and more.

NEPA has been hollowed out. The rules we’ve relied on for decades to force agencies to consider environmental impacts are now reduced to paperwork. ESA isn’t protecting habitat anymore. And a new federal office has the power to reclassify and sell off federal land and buildings – ranger stations, visitor centers, you name it.

But we didn’t just talk about what’s being lost. We talked about how to fight back. From the importance of filing public comments to sharing stories, documenting and sharing photos, and applying pressure to your senators and congress people via phone calls, there are ways to push back right now. As Wes said, this is not about panicking people. It’s about snapping us out of complacency.

If you’re not already subscribed to Wes’s newsletter, fix that. He’s been ahead of the curve on this and continues to do essential work. More soon.
